As part of the JSF F-35 (Joint Strike Fighter) project, which involves Turkey as well, establishment of the regional Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul Center for Pratt & Whitney's (P&W) F135 engine to power these aircraft, at the facilities of the 1st Air Supply and Maintenance Center Command (1st ASMCC) has been decided. Regional maintenance, repair, overhaul and all follow-on operational support will be carried out under the roof of the 1st ASMCC facilities, with TEI being the prime contractor. Accordingly, after a series of preliminary meetings attended by the representatives of the Undersecretary for Defense Industries, Turkish Air Forces, Joint Project Office (JPO) and P&W, TEI executed a Phase I Prime Contractor Agreement with the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries in the second half of 2015. In parallel to this agreement, a subcontractor agreement was executed by and between TEI and Pratt & Whitney. The parties continue to work on the collaboration and protocol to be established between Turkish Air Forces and TEI within the framework of the business model set as per these agreements.
As part of the project, Katrina G.McFarland, Assistant Secretary of Defense (Acquisition) , visited TEI's premises in Eskisehir on Wednesday, November 11 for on-site observation of the works. During her visit, she was briefed on the general capabilities of TEI and the current progress of the project as well as the actions to be taken during the next phases. Following the briefing, McFarland noted that she had already knowledge about the current position of the Aviation Industry in Turkey but her opinions were solidified after the visit, and she thanked for the hospitality shown towards her. After presentation of a Plaque, the event ended with Katrina G.McFarland writing a message on TEI visitors' books.
