The program was launched upon execution of the agreement between Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (UDI), TUSAS, the main contractor, and Sikorsky Aircraft, the main sub-contractor, as part of the "Turkish Utility Helicopter Program".
Involved in the project as the licensed engine manufacturer, TEI will not only manufacture "T700-TEI-701D" engines, powering the Blackhawk helicopters, but also be responsible for all part and module manufacturing, engine assembly, testing, sales and after-sales logistic support services. Under the project, TEI will deliver 236 engines, including the substitutes, for 109 helicopters.
TEI's President and CEO Prof. Dr. Mahmut F. Aksit said: "Besides critical parts to be needed by an engine throughout its life, engine hot parts such as combustion chamber will be manufactured for the first time in Turkey by TEI, and engine assembly and testing processes will be performed at TEI. As part of after-sales support, we will have the opportunity to carry out the Depot Level Maintenance processes of T700 engine family, available in the inventory of Turkish end-users, with domestically manufactured parts. Moreover, we will be able to provide depot level maintenance service to T700 engine users in a wider pre-determined geography outside Turkey. We aim at providing optimal benefit for all of its stakeholders at a competitive price through such program."
Under the project, 109 T70 Blackhawk Helicopters will be delivered to 6 different users; namely Turkish Land Forces Command, Turkish Air Forces Command, General Command of Turkish Gendarmerie, Special Forces Command, Turkish National Police and General Directorate of Forestry within 10 years.
